I never thought …

I never thought …

… I’d actually enjoy sitting watching cricket. I’m sitting at Perth Stadium, watching a test match and it’s the third day I’ve turned up for a few hours. For those who know about, and love, cricket that’s pretty standard. For those who know nothing about cricket, it’s a slowly developing, strategic play that seems glacial at times with brief moments of excitement. It’s also a lesson in patience and planning.

It’s peaceful. It doesn’t matter if you miss a few minutes. It does matter that you relax into the game.

Very different to T20, which is far more similar to everyday life. Noisy, busy, dramatic, I love T20 and will keep going to my local Scorchers matches similar to the Dockers.

But there’s something about this form of the game. I’m going to draw a very tenuous analogy here but there’s similarities to my rehabilitation from MS and the endless physical therapy which has led to where I am now, and the slow pace of 5 days which could end in a draw, followed by the next Test and year more days of slow, paced, strategic play.

This year , I’ve skied, and started running, and even run ( very slowly), up stairs. The long strategy pays off. Five years.
