Working Morocco, around Taroudent

Driving to Taroudent yesterday with a stop at a valley of share-cropping fields, then a real souk for the local people, was an insight into working daily life here.

The tour has generally been well paced, if moving a lot for the last few days. Yesterday however, they really got the itinerary wrong, by changing hotels from in a local vibrant town with a cool Medina and old walls, to one 45 minutes past the town. Admittedly the hotel was lovely, a faded Moroccan large family mansion converted into a hotel. However there was nowhere to explore and we felt like tourists trapped in a gilded cage. The food was good, but very similar to other places and little choice. I would much preferred a cheap hotel, in town and do feel an opportunity has been missed.

Las tonight really confirmed I prefer a slower pace, with a couple of nights spent in each interesting place and not too many days continuously moving. I feel as if I haven’t really managed to get a sense of a few of the places we’ve so briefly visited.
