Last day in Morocco

Last day in Morocco

A last peaceful day in Marrakech before the long trip home starting tomorrow. A visit to a beautifully manicured garden a world away from the bustle of the city, and a great Berber museum with clothes, jewellery and other centuries-old artefacts. Look for the Majorelle Jardins on Google, a peaceful place however rather full of Instagrammers and influencers wielding selfie-sticks. Yves San Laurent restored the gardens and called Marrakech home for many years, his worshippers were out in force.

A visit to a mausoleum with a crazy long queue, a good reminder of how popular Morocco really is and how lucky we have been to escape the crazy crowds.

Then a last meal in the new part of the city, it’s been an interesting day of contrasts to the local Morocco we’ve become used to; this was far more about appearances and image and being seen.

The final lovely memory was our taxi driver, in the most beaten up taxi yet, quoting us a very fair price then arranging for me to call him for a pick up at the end of the meal. He turned up and was a model of friendliness and efficient service. His act of service was confirmation of the general good nature of people here. Sure there has been some hassle but far more often there’s been help and assistance cheerfully offered.
