Beaches and granite islands

Beaches and granite islands

A little belt day yesterday of walking on long sandy beaches and gentle hikes on rocky islands and outcrops. This area of SA is gentle and easy to enjoy, with great food, friendly people and plenty of low key interesting activities.

I worked near here 9 years ago, doing some volunteer work for an Aboriginal company. One of my projects was getting a grant application prepared, for a company to employ young guys gathering pipis, small shellfish, from the beaches to sell to restaurants. Well yesterday we had a lovely lunch at the company’s own restaurant, by the beach from whew the cockles are collected.

It’s been cool, mix of rain and sun and clouds, so very pleasant for exploring a pretty coastline. I got a geology lesson on the walk, I know way more about granites than previously !

Off to the winery now, and a better photograph of the very fun car.
