The drive out

The drive out

A long drive today. From Monkey Mia to Ningaloo is about 7 hours, and the journey is passing well, in a haze of music, snoozing, blogging and sharing the driving. I’m enough of a dinosaur to be impressed with having reception most of the way.

A couple of amazing sights in the way – a beach made totally of tiny cockle shells, originally named Shell Beach – a stand of stromatolites in Hamelin Bay.

And the stop at Minilya for our final fuel break before going off grid, so no more updates for a few days.

I love travelling, seeing the country slowly spooling past. Chatting to people, watching the landscape slowly change, the odd emu and stripy chicks crossing the road. Air travel is fabulous, but there’s something special travelling by land or water.
