Well finding a parking spot really quickly at the beach on New Year’s Day at 7:30am is not magical, it’s just very lucky. I should know by now how busy the beach gets early on a hot day during the holidays.

This photograph is not typical of the utter chaos in the car park or the other view to mayhem up the beach to the shark net area which is unsurprisingly popular !
What was magical; swimming in cool, clear water keeping pace with shoals of little fish. The shoal was slower than my pace, so matching their speed was a peaceful, slow swim for maybe five minutes of unexpected company. Joyful swimming, for me as I really don’t know how the little fish felt with this lumbering human in their midst.

Maybe that’s my metaphor for 2025; don’t pursue achievements or goals too hard, treasure the small magical moments when they occur.
The last two weeks in the UK were hectic, and the 6 months prior desperately occupied with both work and study. It’s strange to think that the lecture section of my Masters is now done, and there is only the project left to complete.
Tomorrow I head off to Tasmania for the 3 day walk I’ve been training for, and a cool rainy climate as some relieve from the blazing WA sun.
Maybe when I return I’ll settle into a calm routine where unexpected magical moments can occur.
